Kendrick Lamar releases 'Black Panther' Soundtrack

Now, the critically adored film has fulfilled that early promise with Black Panther: The Album (***1/2 out of four), out Friday, which Lamar curated and contributed to. The highly anticipated Marvel blockbuster soundtrack is packed with R&B, rap, and hip-hop heavyweights and features new music from SZA, The Weeknd, Vince Staples, Future, Travis Scott, and more.

With hype for Black Panther growing every day, the album is sure to stay at the top of the charts for a while, especially after the movie is released into the wild.

Following four studio albums of his own, Black Panther: The Album represented a new creative challenge for the 11-time Grammy victor. Dexterously spitting bars over sparse piano plucks, Lamar touches on numerous same themes we've heard throughout his four-album catalog: touting the importance of community and activism, while drawing parallels to his own experience as the newly anointed "king" of hip hop. The duo worked alongside director Ryan Coogler to perfectly curate an album that would hit all the right beats of the film.
