A police patrol party in Raniganj Burdwan were clashes and incidents of arson were reported following a Ram Navami procession
Union Minister Babul Supriyo was on Friday stopped from the entering the Asansol-Raniganj area, which has been on the boil since Sunday over Ramnavmi procession, as Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed.
There was no confirmation from the police about the incident.
There was no fresh incident of violence, but the prohibitory orders were in force in Asansol, he said.
Citing security reasons, police stopped the vehicle of the Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises as he tried to enter the Railpar area in the district.
Incidentally, a group of people raised slogans against the minister demanding that he should leave the area. "I told them that if you love me, you will not raise a finger", said Rashidi, Imam of Noorani Mosque in Chetladanga Nadi Par. The CPM has sought permission to hold a peace rally in Asansol on Sunday but the police is yet to give permission.

Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi is likely to visit some violence-affected areas of Asansol and Raniganj on Saturday, three days after the Mamata Banerjee government "advised" against such a trip on security grounds, sources said.
