The Stoop could become the go-to destination for All Blacks seeking a year overseas after Harlequins signed a "cooperation agreement" with New Zealand Rugby (NZR).
The groundbreaking agreement will see the London club host New Zealand internationals looking to boost their earnings on a European sabbatical, before sending them back to their home country.
"This is new territory for New Zealand Rugby and this unique relationship will open some useful connections in that part of the world", said NZR chief executive Steve Tew, who recently told The Telegraph that Kiwi teens as young as 15 are being targeted by clubs in France and the United Kingdom in what he describes as an unprecedented threat to his country's playing stocks.
'This alignment will create significant opportunities for both sides, with players, coaches and staff able to learn from different environments with different people, challenges and cultures, ' Tew said in a statement.
"If you look at 2017 we had an unusual number of top quality worldwide rugby matches played on New Zealand soil and, as a result, NZR benefited from a significant spike in income, mainly from increased gate takings and broadcasting revenue". In exchange, Quins will send young players and coaches to New Zealand.
