Apple unveils new iPad to regain ground in classrooms

Apple updated its 9.7-inch iPad to support its Pencil stylus and offered a glimpse of upcoming software for educational settings, per a statement. And you don't even have the option to pick last year's iPad - it's already discontinued - just so you can stop yourself from getting that Pencil. While the new iPad might be pretty useful for taking notes in class or working on group projects, it won't be much help for writing anything longer than an email.

The additional features announced include an app called "Schoolwork" that is created to help teachers make assignments and monitor their students' progress. Teachers will also be able to mark up documents and assignments submitted by students using the Apple Pencil. Either way, it looks like Apple's new play for education will see plenty more schools arguing over budget, utility, and lock-in, with the usual amount of press fuss when any school goes iPad, Chromebook or plain old Windows.

Google has emerged as the education leader in the US market, thanks largely to laptop computers running on its Chrome software. It has price of INR 28000 for the 32GB with Wi-Fi model and INR 38600 for the 32GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model. Apple Pencil support previously only came with the high-end iPad Pro.

An Education-Specific iPadApple's new, affordable iPad will be designed for teachers and students. One example displayed on stage was the Froggipedia app, which allows students to virtually dissect frogs using an Apple Pencil.

The Cupertino firm unveiled new applications, along with its new iPad, aimed at the education market as it tries to regain momentum lost to Google in the world of classroom technology.

Apple also revealed a series of apps for the classroom, such as a progress tool called Classroom that allows users to what students are working on in the classroom.

The addition of LTE is significant as it means that for the first time numerous features on the Apple Watch can be used independently from the iPhone. Free iCloud storage increases from 5 GB to 200 GB for schools to better manage student sessions on shared iPads.

Even though the additions are made, the price has not shot up and is the same as previous year.

The new iPad supports Apple Pencil and features even greater performance. At the event, Apple also said that the ability to create a digital book is coming to the Pages app.
