Days after ESPN came out with a report that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had recordings of the Arizona coach offering to pay recruit DeAndre Ayton $100,000, he denied the accuracy of the claim.
Additional reporting confirmed that ESPN was correct in a February 24 SportsCenter video talk back which stated that Arizona coach Sean Miller and Christian Dawkins, a key figure in the FBI's investigation into college basketball corruption, spoke in 2017.
"I have never paid a recruit or prospect or representative or their family to come to Arizona", Miller said, reading from a statement. "I never have and I never will", he said.
Miller did not coach the Wildcats in a 98-93 loss at OR on Saturday night while the school investigated the matter.

On Thursday, just ahead of the start of the Pac-12 men's basketball tournament, Miller made his first public appearance and discussed the allegations.
The Wildcats (22-7 on the year, a Pac-12-leading 12-4 in conference play) host Stanford on Thursday night and then close the regular season Saturday against California.

In short, Miller says the allegations are inaccurate, false and defamatory.
Despite several glaring holes in the story, however, Miller's status is still up in the air at Arizona.
Robbins said Miller did not coach against OR because the school did not know all the details and given the shock of the report. He is accused of taking $20,000 in bribes to steer players to Dawkins and another financial adviser.
"I believe it is in the best interest of our team that I not coach the game tonight", he said in a statement, via Sports Illustrated's Daniel Rapaport. "I now intend to return my focus to basketball and our players and this team".
"I also want you to know that the one time someone suggested to me paying a player to come to the University of Arizona I did not agree to it".
