Assam set to stream budget 'made by public'

Umarried orphaned women and teenage girls have been promised allowances by the Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who presented the state budget 2018 for the first time in a digital format on Monday.

The budget has allotted Rs 11,570 crore to education sector, Rs 5,082 crore to health sector while the agriculture sector has been provided with Rs 1,801 crore.

Previously Andhra Pradesh has brought similar technological revolution in Assembly by presenting an e-budget but it was not shared in public, was among the legislators only.

After adding the receipt of Rs 2,90,914.84 crore under Public Account and Rs 100 crore under Contigency Fund, the aggregate Receipts amount to Rs 3,81,688.26 crore and total aggregate expenditure is estimated 3,80,688.27 crore.

The budget also proposes to set up social cell in every department to bring the government closer to the people and has allocated a sum of Rs 3 crore for this objective. But this time Assam is doing something more to post it on twitter and facebook through live streaming and especially for the ones who are too occupied to follow the budget on television or social media, the informations shall be available on the Google app, as stated by Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Finance Minister of Assam. According to several news reports, journalists covering the show will be offered the details of the budget in a pendrive. Legislators will be able to use the tablets in the House during discussions on the budget.
