It has launched Zenfone 5, Zenfone 5Z and Zenfone 5 lite yesterday. "Today, the ZenFone 5 Series is the most intelligent ZenFone series ever", said ASUS CEO Jerry Shen, "Utilizing advanced AI algorithms and big-data analytics to provide users with a unique slate of intelligent camera, communication and convenience features".

Actually, calling the ZenFone 5 and 5Q "not bad" would be an understatement. The spacious display (19:9 ratio, 6.2 inches) exhibits bold and vivid colors, and even if its color accuracy isn't ideal, we must stay that it looks pretty good to the naked eye. The cameras performed better than you would expect from a smaller phone brand and I think Asus could be onto a victor here.

Not to be left out is the ZenFone 5 Lite, sporting a 6-inch 18:9 display with very minimal bezels as well. Without the notch, the display has 18:9 aspect ration, but with the notch, it goes to 19:9.

Android Oreo with ZenUI. The smartphone - ZenFone Max (M1) will either be powered by Snapdragon 430 or Snapdragon 425 chipset. The phone also comes with a micro SD card slot.

However, the dual camera is the area where Asus lavished the most attention. This comprises of a 20MP sensor on the front and 16MP sensor on the rear, both of which have been paired with a secondary 120-degree wide-angle lens. At the front, the device sports an 8 Megapixel of camera as a selfie shooter camera as front facing camera. It also features an 8MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture. Connectivity features include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC and GPS/A-GPS.

Finally, there's AI Charging, which will learn from how you charge your phone to help preserve the battery in the long term. Let's take a look at the specifications of all the three smartphones and the price and availability. The 4-series ZenFones look great, as do the brand's ultrabooks.

My colleague Chance wrote an opinion piece last night arguing that the notch design is much better than having both a chin and forehead on smartphones. The latter is downgraded to a Snapdragon 636 SoC, 64GB of ROM, and 4GB/6GB of RAM. Both phones are on Android Oreo 8.0 with Asus ZenUI 5.0 on top. While it's good enough for the mid range ZenFone 5, it is a bit on the lower side compared to rivals in the premium segment. There is only one Storage variant available on the ZenFone 5 smartphone. The cameras seem to be the same specifications as the 5Z but will lack the PDA and four axis OIS of the 5Z. The reason we are saying this is because ZenFone 5 is equipped with an all-glass chassis. The secondary sensor includes an 8-megapixel sensor coupled with an f/2.2 aperture and a 120-degree wide-angle lens. The device carries kind of the same set of specs as the ZenFone 5 smartphone. The display also supports DCI-P3 color gamut and comes with Asus Blue-Light eye care filter.

The ZenFone 5Z features the latest Snapdragon chipset, intelligent dual cameras, and a massive 6.2-inch display that still fits into a form factor you'd expect from a traditional 5.5-inch handset.

Asus CEO Jerry Chen, GM of mobile business division Bryan Chang and global marketing head of system business group Marcel Campos will be present at the announcement.

The ZenFone Max Plus M1 is powered by a 1.5GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6750T processor with Mali T860 GPU, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage.
