Fire in shopping mall in Siberia kills 5 and injures 32
Investigators looking into a fire that killed at least 64 people at a busy shopping mall in Siberia said on Monday a security guard had turned off the public address system and exits had been illegally blocked.
Numerous victims were children, about a dozen people are still missing after the blaze in the industrial city of about half a million people, over 2,000 miles east of Moscow, the Interfax news agency reported.
Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for ICR, said four people had been detained in connection with an investigation into the fire.
More than 200 people were reportedly evacuated in a rescue operation that involved 15 fire crews.
The fire at the Zimnyaya Vishnya (Winter Cherry) shopping mall in central Kemerovo started on the fourth, top, floor and consumed an area of about 1,600 square meters.
