A former first-round pick, Lotulelei has been a starter right at the start of his career through his fifth-year in Carolina.

On Tuesday, the Bills turned their attention to free agency - and have agreed in principle on a deal with their first unrestricted free agent. The Bills had a big need at that spot after trading Marcell Dareus to the Jacksonville Jaguars at the trading deadline last season. In this case, Lotulelei played in McDermott's system for five seasons in Carolina and the learning curve should be non-existent. Meanwhile, Short, a 2013 second-round pick, accumulated 24.5 sacks over the past three seasons and parlayed that into a five-year, $80.5 million extension before last season. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report Lotulelei's pending agreement. He's also rather durable, starting every single game over the past two seasons. He's started all 16 contests each of the past two years and is one of the better run-stoppers around.
