The missing include three members of the same family, Mary Ragoobeer, 46, and her two sons, Shane, 18, and Sean, 17, who lived in the flat above the Polish supermarket in the building flattened by the explosion.

They reiterated that there was no evidence the events were terrorist related. But obviously as time goes on, that becomes less likely.

Additional specialist search and rescue teams were sent to the scene in Hinckley Road, including two search and rescue dogs.

"We were en route when the police called to say a building had collapsed", she added.

An Indian-origin family, which had moved to the United Kingdom from Mauritius, is among five people who are missing in a major fire that claimed five lives in the city of Leicester on Sunday evening.

"We've got no indication of what the cause is at this moment", the spokeswoman said.

Residents have been told to avoid the area.

The three men, all in their 30s, were being questioned by detectives, police said in a statement on Wednesday.

The emergency services have warned that on-going work and the weather conditions, with heavy snow forecast for later, means the A47 road will remain closed in both directions for some time yet.

Emergency services dug through the rubble throughout the night and a search and rescue operation at the site is ongoing.

The store on Hinckley Road was part of a row of shops and was next door to TJ's Takeaways and Morgan's Bar pub.
