Rodney Hood will start in Smith's place against the Sixers. Smith has been the team's starting shooting guard since Dwyane Wade started coming off the bench before being traded back to his original team, the Miami Heat.
Smith, 32, has played in 59 of the Cavs' 60 games this season and started 56. His PER numbers is a low 8.3, which is the worst of anyone on the team who gets regular playing time.
The Cavs announced veteran guard Smith's one-game ban two hours before Thursday's National Basketball Association clash for conduct detrimental to the team.

Addressing reporters after the news broke, Lue said that a post-shootaround incident led to Smith's suspension, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN. In just six games since the trade that brought him to Cleveland, Hood has averaged 11.2 points from the bench, along with 2.7 rebounds - both numbers better than J.R. Smith.
