Flu season is winding down, but the Centers for Disease Control is warning of a second wave.
"We know that illness associated with influenza B can be just as severe as illness associated with influenza A", CDC spokesperson Kristen Nordlund said, via CNN.
Doctors say it was the A-strain of the flu that peaked during this current flu season.
The CDC says that B-viruses are being reported more frequently than the A-strain, which had been more dominant recently.
Influenza A or H3N2 is typically the more severe type of flu virus, leading to complications, and even death, for those who are most susceptible - children, seniors, people with preexisting medical conditions.

The numbers are on par with those in Maryland, where the B-strain topped 60 percent of all cases reported.
"What we've seen over the past week or so is an uptick in Flu B", she said. It remains the best guarantor against infection and supports the "herd immunity" that protects our most vulnerable citizens, from the very young to the very old.
"There are two different strains of A and two different strains of B, so you can get flu four times in one season", Knott said.
However, it's still landing people in the hospital and can still be just as unsafe as Strain A, especially in children. Since October 2017 133 children have died due to the flu.
It's been the most intense flu season since 2009's swine flu, overwhelming emergency rooms across the country.
