CDC warns of a second wave of flu virus happening now

Flu season is winding down, but the Centers for Disease Control is warning of a second wave.

"We know that illness associated with influenza B can be just as severe as illness associated with influenza A", CDC spokesperson Kristen Nordlund said, via CNN.

The CDC says that B-viruses are being reported more frequently than the A-strain, which had been more dominant recently.

Influenza A or H3N2 is typically the more severe type of flu virus, leading to complications, and even death, for those who are most susceptible - children, seniors, people with preexisting medical conditions.

"There are two different strains of A and two different strains of B, so you can get flu four times in one season", Knott said.

However, it's still landing people in the hospital and can still be just as unsafe as Strain A, especially in children. Since October 2017 133 children have died due to the flu.
