A woman convicted of drugging numerous children at her unlicensed day care and leaving them alone has been sentenced to more than 21 years in prison.
January Neatherlin, 32, who was running a day care centre in Bend in the USA state of Oregon, has been sentenced to 21 years and four months' jail after pleading guilty to 11 counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment and one count of third-degree assault, Oregon Live reports.
January Neatherlin, 32, was sentenced on Friday (local time) after admitting she left seven infants alone at her illegal day-care centre, Little Giggles, in OR a year ago.
The children who had been left in her care during those trips had melatonin in their systems, according to court documents.
The Oregonian reported that the Neatherlin also lied to the children's parents about being a registered nurse. "Police checked Cross Fit and Tan Republic records to find that's when she would leave the house, hours she referred to as 'nap time'".
Her scheme began to unravel last March when police were contacted by a former roommate and an ex-boyfriend.
Neatherlin has prior felony identity-theft convictions under the names January Livsey and January Brooks.

In addition to operating an illegal day care for four years, Neatherlin had a history of theft dating back to 2007.
In sentencing, Deschutes County Circuit Judge Wells Ashby told Neatherlin, "there is something broken and missing in you". "I let you all down".
