Hemsworth would play a new agent in the movie, which is slated for release May 17, 2019.

The news comes 20 years after the Men In Black series kicked off, with original stars Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, who won't be returning for the new MiB films.

He may now be best known as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Sony is recruiting Chris Hemsworth for an alien adventure in the next Men in Black movie.

The spin-off has already been written by Iron Man scribes Matt Holloway & Art Marcum and the studio greenlit the picture on their draft.

Sources say the new combination of characters involve a white character, a black woman, and an older man. Jones' and Smith's characters were agents in a secret organization that monitored and managed Earth's population of extraterrestrials. It will build on the contemporary sci-fi world established in the first three movies, much like "Jurassic World" did with its franchise. The entire franchise has made more than $1.5 billion worldwide.

Hemsworth will next be seen in this spring's Avengers: Infinity War. Hemsworth played the role of Captain Mitch Nelson in 12 Strong, a movie about a Special Forces team in Afghanistan following September 11, 2001, that premiered in theaters across the country last month.

Word of a potential Men in Black revival trilogy from Sony has been circulating since 2015, which included rumors of a 21 Jump Street and Men in Black crossover movie.
