"Cavaliers guard JR Smith has been suspended by the team for one game for detrimental conduct". The 76ers are now in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, 3.5 games behind the Cavaliers, and have themselves won seven of their last nine games.

Cleveland head coach Tyronn Lue did not disclose what the detrimental conduct was but did say it happened after Thursday's shootaround. Smith is only averaging 8.3 points-per-game but is still playing a high 29.3 minutes-per-game for the Cavaliers. Smith will serve the penalty on Thursday night (Friday, Manila time) as the Cavs host the Philadelphia 76ers.

"That's all the details I'm going to give to you and he'll be ready to go tomorrow, and he'll be ready to go on Saturday", Lue said.

Cleveland announced this evening that J.R. Smith has been suspended.

Rodney Hood will start in Smith's place against the Sixers.

This suspension will cost Smith a total of $94,897 out of his pocket, but the team will not gain any tax relief for his suspension, given that it was a team suspension, not an National Basketball Association decision, per ESPN Insider Bobby Marks.
