Following the announced by the European Court of Justice on the fisheries agreement, Morocco and the EU expressed on Tuesday their willingness to pursue, preserve, and strengthen their strategic partnership and their fisheries ties.
"This is a reasonable time to start negotiations for the future", he said, adding that both parties "will have to adapt the mechanisms of the fisheries agreement to be consistent with the judgment of the court".

An EU fisheries deal with Morocco remains valid as long as it does not involve the disputed region of Western Sahara, the bloc's top court ruled Tuesday, avoiding a clash between Brussels and Rabat.
"For over 40 years the worldwide community has stood by and allowed the Moroccan authorities to profit from an illegal and brutal occupation of Western Sahara".
In regard to the Western Sahara conflict, the European Union and Morocco reaffirmed their support for the United Nations process and efforts of the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, to reach a final political solution to the issue. The Polisario Front independence movement and Morocco fought for control of the Western Sahara from 1974 to 1991 until an UN-brokered ceasefire. However the Polisario Front insists on holding a United Nations referendum on independence from Morocco. A British NGO, Western Sahara Campaign (WSC), defending Western Sahara's right to self-determination had filed a complaint, arguing that the fisheries agreement concluded by the Union and Morocco and the texts of the acts approving and implementing it are invalid insofar as such agreement and acts apply to the territory and waters of Western Sahara.
