Dawood Ibrahim aide Farooq Takla could be arrested by CBI in gutkha case: Cop
After almost 25 years, a key Dawood Ibrahim aide - Yasin Mansoor Mohammed Farooq alias Farooq Takla - was extradited from Dubai for his role in the 1993 serial blasts case and arrested by the CBI at IGI Airport in Delhi.
Takla was arrested from the worldwide airport here by CBI and was produced in the court late this evening amidst heavy police security by the officers of CBI, who are investigating the 1993 bomb blasts case.TADA Judge asked him about any ill treatment at the hands of CBI, to which the accused replied in negative.
Takla was recently arrested from New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport by the CBI after he arrived from Dubai.
Jumbo, in his confessional statement in the gutkha case, had said that Farooq Takla mediated between the two warring gutkha barons.
While moving the remand application, CBI told the court that accused was deeply involved not only in the conspiracy but also at various stages of the blasts and hence a detailed custodial interrogation of the accused was necessary, following which the court granted CBI custody.
According to the CBI lawyer, Takla provided logistical support such as arranging tickets for accused Salim Bismillah Khan alias Salim Kurla, Mohd Hanif Mohd Usman Shaikh, Shaikh Ibrahim Shaikh Hussain, and Mohd Sayyad Mohd Issaq, and had received them in Dubai before the blasts.

According to CBI, Takla frequently travelled between Dubai and Karachi, also, he was in touch with Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.
Meanwhile, Takla's brother Mohammed Ahmed Mansoor, who was acquitted by the court in the blasts case earlier, said in the courtroom that Takla came to India because he had asked him so.
While Dawood and his family, another Mumbai blasts accused Tiger Memon and his family had left Dubai after a few years and taken shelter in Pakistan, Takla continued to live in the Gulf with his ever-increasing "hawala" trading, another official said.
Farooq was produced before special TADA judge G A Sanap and sent to police custody till March 19.
Farooq has been taken to Mumbai where he would be produced before the designated court hearing the case of 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai that shook the financial capital of the country leaving 257 dead besides damaging property to the tune of Rs 82 crore.
