The midfielder has struggled to perform since arriving from Valencia in a big-money move
The Portuguese playmaker, signed from Valencia in July 2016 for 35 million euros ($43 million), plus a potential 20 million in add-ons, has struggled since arriving at the Nou Camp scoring only three goals in 72 appearances in all competitions. The Portuguese gave a frank interview to Panenka magazine in which he outlines how unhappy he feels on the field.
"Maybe it's not the right word to use, but it has turned into a kind of hell, because I have started to feel more pressure. The feeling that I have during games is bad", he says.
Things changed after my first six months and there was more pressure, which is fine but I'm too self-critical of myself. I can not shake negative moments out of my head and it impacts on my performances and I am thinking too much. "Although my team mates support me a lot, things don't go for me how they want them to go". I close myself off.
"I don't allow myself to let out the frustration that I have". Then I don't talk to anybody, I don't bother anyone. It's like I feel ashamed.
