
Greek economy minister resigns in subsidy abuse scandal
In what regards Antonopoulou, a New-York based economist and Bard College associate professor, who has had previous experience in the United Nations, she is thought to be one of the wealthiest ministers, alongside her husband, Minister for Development and Growth Dimitris Papadimitriou.
Commenting on the reports, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos told Real FM that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had spoken to Antonopoulou, telling her it was "not right" that she had exploited the subsidy in question and that she had been asked to make a statement on the matter.
On Monday, Papadimitriou's wife, deputy labor minister Rania Antonopoulou, quit over the 1,000-euro ($1,200) monthly allowance for her Athens home.

The government has said it plans to abolish the housing subsidy for Cabinet members who are not members of parliament. Tsipras is also reportedly set to reshuffle his Cabinet on Thursday to fill the two vacant posts.
