Free-Agent Setup: Miami Dolphins tag Jarvis Landry as non-exclusive FA

The Miami Dolphins tagged wide receiver Jarvis Landry with the non-exclusive franchise tag on February 20, the first day teams could use the franchise or transition tag.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Dolphins will meet with Landry to discuss his future-and multiple sources believe the discussions will ultimately result in a trade. "So a trade is the likeliest outcome here", he continued. Despite the financial commitment, the Dolphins haven't yet agreed to bring Landry back for the 2018 season. Miami already has Kenny Stills and DeVante Parker in house, and while Landry led the league in receptions a year ago, he didn't crack 1,000 receiving yards.

Only time will tell what actually transpires, but based on the accuracy of Schefter's past reports, it's safe to view this as a reliably sourced revelation.

For his career, Landry has amassed 4,038 yards and 22 touchdowns over his four-year career.

Miami placed a $16.2 million tag on Landry last week, but with the NFL Scouting Combine coming up, the Dolphins are still open to a viable option that could take Landry's place.

Using the franchise tag, the Dolphins could work out trade parameters.

Landry has played in 64 games with 57 starts over his four-year National Football League career and the three-time Pro Bowler topped the National Football League with team-record 112 receptions for 987 yards (8.8 average) and a career-high nine receiving touchdowns last season.

- A negotiation between the new team and the Dolphins for trade compensation for Landry because it's assumed no team would want to give Miami two first-round picks.
