DRC protests
Policemen react after a protester threw a stone from Notre Dame Cathedral compound in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. Church organizations have been staging demonstrations against long-delayed elections, and the worldwide community has criticized Congolese security forces for violent crackdowns on the protests.
The nationwide protests were called by the Lay Coordination Committee (CLC), an organisation close to the church and an influential social and spiritual movement.
Two more people were reported wounded in the northeastern city of Kisangani.
In Kisangani, hundreds marched but quickly retreated into a Cathedral when police used tear gas and began firing bullets.
Three priests were arrested as they led a march in the Saint Pierre de Wagenia district in the east of the city.
Under a 2016 agreement, brokered by the church, between the Congolese government and opposition groups, Kabila agreed while coming to power in 2001, to organise presidential, legislative and provincial elections by the end of 2017.
In addition to the dead, who were killed in the capital Kinshasa and the western city of Mbandaka, the head of Congo's United Nations mission, Leila Zerrougui, said 47 people were injured and more than 100 were arrested across the country.
In January he accused the church of interfering in Congolese politics.

SBI revises deposit rates for various maturity periods by up to 0.75%

The ban on Sunday's anti-Kabila march came after a total of 15 people were killed by security forces in previous protests on New Year's Eve and January 21, according to organisers and the UN.
As with previous protest marches, internet, mobile data and phone messaging were cut across Congo early on Sunday, making it hard to confirm instances of violence.
Kinshasa police chief General Sylvain Kasongo said on Saturday that his objective was zero deaths and he told his forces not to shoot the unarmed civilian population.
Political tensions in DRC have been mounting since September 2016, when clashes between youths and security forces left dozens of people dead in Kinshasa.
Fears have multiplied that a sprawling, chronically unstable country, which experienced wars from 1996-97 and from 1998-2003, could explode into violence once more, shaking central and southern Africa.
The vote is now scheduled for this December, though election officials have hinted that polls may not be possible even then due to financial and logistical constraints.
Prior to Sunday's protest the organisers had demanded for immediate elections and a pledge from Kabila not to run again.
