Bollywood can't get over Sridevi, post heart-wrenching messages
The statement was issued on behalf of Sridevi's husband Boney Kapoor, their daughters Khushi and Janhvi, and the entire Kapoor and Ayyappan (Sridevi's side) clans.
The family also urged the media to respect their privacy and allow them space to grieve.
Sridevi's final journey began with a decorated truck carrying the iconic actor's mortal remains to the Vile Parle crematorium, where the final rites took place.
Indian cinema's first major female superstar, known mononymously as Sridevi, was found unconscious in a bathtub in a hotel in Dubai on Saturday night.
Indian actress Sridevi Kapoor drowned in her bathtub after losing consciousness and the case had been closed after investigation, Dubai Prosecutor's office said. "Doctors suddenly appeared before the media and said she died of heart failure".
The actress has acted in over 300 films during her career.
With the uncertainty and speculation finally ending, the family issued a statement thanking "the film fraternity, media, fans of late Sridevi Kapoor and all the well-wishers for their prayers, support and sensitivity during our moment of vast grief".
As per media sources, Boney Kapoor was summoned by the Dubai Police to Bur Dubai police station for investigation.
Meanwhile, Navdeep Singh Suri, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, also tweeted: "After completion of all local processes, mortal remains of #Sridevi are now on en-route to Mumbai". Actor Hrithik Roshan, who said his first role in a movie was with Sridevi, recalled in a tweet how she pretended to be nervous when she first met him, to calm his nerves.
Her family brought the actress' body to Mumbai in a private plane on Tuesday night. "I am getting emotional as I speak right now", she said.
Director Anees Bazmi, who has worked with Boney Kapoor on "No Entry", was amongst the visitors on Tuesday. "It is a big shock for everyone".
The late actress' daughter Jahnvi Kapoor and other family members - Anil Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor - were present at the airport along with business magnate Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani. "No matter how long I have to wait, I will wait", he told an AP reporter, clutching a small bouquet of flowers.
