Larry Nassar's survivors aren't finished fighting for justice and change
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said investigators will look at "systemic issues" with how the school has dealt with such complaints.
According to sources who attended the meeting, numerous lawmakers who met with Engler and Blanchard were concerned about the university's response to Nassar, and questioned whether the current board of trustees should remain in their positions.
In the wake of the Nassar scandal, survivors have turned their attention to our state's sexual assault laws.
Among the women who spoke at a Capitol news conference was Olympian Jordyn Wieber, who spoke at Nassar's sentencing and says "activism can create action that results in change".
Lindsey Lemke says she reported Nassar to an MSU official, but was ignored. Barbara Dorris, executive director of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, said just in the past month, she has talked to two people from MI in their early 20s who said they were abused by a priest and a minister but can not sue because of the time limit.
"The legislative package unveiled today will become a blueprint for our country", Denhollander said."Two hundred and fifty-six women chose to stand against the tide and speak out against sexual abuse".

At the federal level, members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, Insurance, and Data Security have requested information from MSU, USA Gymnastics, the U.S. Olympic Committee and other affiliated organizations. The U.S. Department of Education said Monday it will open an investigation into Michigan State University's handling of reports of sexual abuse and assault against former sports doctor Larry Nassar, as the fallout continues from allegations by female gymnasts that the school failed to adequately protect them.
"Every student across every campus should know that I am committed to ensuring all students have access to a learning environment free from sexual misconduct and discrimination and that all institutions that fall short will be held accountable for violations of federal law", DeVos said in a statement. "As we have been, MSU is cooperating fully with this and all investigations", it said.
