Egyptian singer Shereen Abdel Wahab
The actress then made the grave mistake of jokingly saying "I would catch Bilharzia ... better drink Evian instead".
She responds that drinking from the river could cause "bilharzia", a name for the parasitic disease schistosomiasis which was once widespread in Egypt.
Ms Abdel Wahab's legal woes over the remark reportedly started in November past year after video surfaced online of her being asked to sing Mashrebtesh Men Nilha, which reportedly translates to have you drunk from the Nile?
Meanwhile, another Egyptian singer, Laila Amer, was also sentenced to prison time for inciting "debauchery and immorality" for a music video in which she plays a downtrodden, belly-dancing housewife who complains to her husband about his bossy mother.
In December, another female singer named Shaimaa Ahmed faced similar charges to Amer over what was deemed racy content, being sentenced to two years in prison, reduced to one year on appeal.
During a concert in the United Arab Emirates in 2016, a fan had asked Abdel-Wahab to sing a song about drinking from the river, with the singer replying, "No, you'd get bilharzia". In a Facebook post, she later apologized for her statements.

The parasite Ms Abdel Wahab joked about is caused by a parasitic worm that lives in fresh water and grows in the human body.
The singer, 37, was convicted by a Cairo court and ordered to pay bail and a fine but is reportedly free pending an appeal.
On top of the legal case against her, the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate announced that it had banned her from performing over her "unjustified mockery of our dear Egypt".
Last year, Egypt sentenced 13 LGBT men to three years in prison after finding them guilty of "habitual debauchery".
Before her imprisonment, she apologised to anyone who took the video for the song, I Have Issues, "in an inappropriate way".
