With controversy swirling over President Donald Trump's call to congratulate Russian strongman Vladimir Putin following his controversial re-election March 18, the White House signaled to Newsmax on Monday he is unlikely to make a similar call to Egypt's President Abdel Fattah-el Sissi after his own certain election this Thursday.

During the first day, according to Egypt's National Electoral Authority (NEA) spokesperson, Mahmoud El Sherif, there was a citizen "high participation", with the largest attendance recorded in the cities of Cairo, Alexandria, Giza and Qalioubiya, as well as the governorates of Assiut, Aswan, and North Sinai.

Sisi overthrew Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in 2013 following mass protests against his rule. Election officials say it's too early to estimate turnout.

Reporting on the election is restricted, with journalists banned from asking voters who they support.

"I have been hearing stories that hurt my ears", he said.
