
French designer Hubert de Givenchy and American actress Audrey Hepburn worked together for over 40 years
Givenchy was famous for designing much of the personal and professional wardrobe of Audrey Hepburn and clothing for Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy and had famously dressed Hepburn in the film Breakfast at Tiffany's. Givenchy's nephew, James de Givenchy, is a jewlery designer and founder of the family-named Taffin jewelers.
Givenchy first lent the actress clothes for the 1954 film Sabrina, after which she became his muse for 40 years.
"It is with huge sadness that we inform you that Hubert Taffin de Givenchy has died", it said in a statement. "Givenchy's lovely simple clothes [gave me] the feeling of being whoever I played", Hepburn said of their partnership.
His label said on Monday: "Hubert de Givenchy was a symbol of Parisian elegance for more than half a century... who revolutionised fashion".
The Givenchy name and influence endures.
Born into aristocracy, his famous clients also included Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy and Princess Grace of Monaco. "He will be greatly missed".

John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Riccardo Tisci have all since served as creative directors of the label, with former Chloé designer Clare Waight Keller now helming the house.
Claire Waight Keller, who now runs the brand owned by LVMH, said: 'Not only was he one of the most influential fashion figures of our time but he also was one of the chicest most charming men I have ever met'.
He may be gone, but Givenchy's legacy will truly live on.
