Athletic director Dave Heeke and university President Robert Robbins said that while the school could not substantiate the former administrative assistant's claims against Rodriguez, an internal investigation found "information, both before and during the investigation, which caused it to be concerned with the direction and climate of the football program".
Former Arizona HC Rich Rodriguez is claiming that the sexual lawsuit being brought against him is an extortion attempt. Wilhelmsen's suit seeks a $7.5 million payment from Rodriguez, and the suit claims that Wilhelmen's representation made a thinly-veiled extortion attempt at getting such money.
This differs greatly from Wilhelmsen's claims, in which she said that in addition to being forced to cover up for Rodriguez's extramarital affair, there were several instances when Rodriguez was physically inappropriate with her - brushing up against her breast, trying to kiss her and making comments about his genitals and underwear.
Rodriguez said he brought the extortion allegations to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Attorney's Office. In a follow-up email on November 8, Rodriguez's legal filing said, Jimenez said that it would take "multiple million dollars" to resolve the matter. None of the three entities would confirm or deny they were investigating Rodriguez's claims.

Rodriguez was sacked by Arizona on January 2 after the school investigated but could not substantiate the allegations.
Then, in January, Wilhelmsen submitted an additional $8.5 million claim against the university, saying it was liable for the coach's conduct because it knew about it and failed to properly respond.
The Wildcats hired former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin to replace Rodriguez.
In six seasons in Tucson, Rodriguez compiled a 43-35 record.
