Manafort Pleads Not Guilty to Superseding Indictment
On October 30, Manafort, 68, pleaded not guilty with Gates in the first disclosed charges in Mueller's investigation of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 USA presidential election.
Manafort again pleaded not guilty to charges before U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson in a brief hearing Wednesday.
Both men are accused of laundering more than $30 million. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He left the campaign that August, after Trump had secured the Republican nomination, when his work for the former Kremlin-backed government in Ukraine came under scrutiny. Note that for money laundering and Bank fraud gates faces imprisonment for decades.
Manafort's longtime business partner, Rick Gates, is among three former Trump aides who have pleaded guilty to assortment of charges and have agreed to cooperate with Mueller's team of prosecutors.
On Monday, federal prosecutors moved to dismiss almost two dozen other charges that Gates faced in Virginia.

Manafort had previously pleaded not guilty in the case, but the latest indictment, which mirrored the charges filed against him last October, required him to formally enter a second plea. The new case included charges related to not properly disclosing his work as a lobbyist for a political faction in Ukraine.
Gates' move was seen as adding to pressure on Manafort to cut a deal himself but he said in a statement issued last Friday after Gates' plea deal that he maintained his innocence. In it, Manafort said Gates' decision "does not alter my commitment to defend myself against the untrue piled up charges in the indictment against me".
"I can understand the impulse to not let that go by without stating your innocence". He also said he plans to file a motion challenging her order. That could leading to contradictory rulings on the evidence, Jackson said.
This week's arraignments were scheduled after, Jackson a Washington judge, granted Manafort permission to travel to Long Island to attend the wake and funeral of his father-in-law, who died Saturday, and to return Tuesday to his Alexandria residence, where he remains in home confinement. She said she thought that was "appropriate", but said it should be 50 questions or fewer.
Paul Manafort's legal struggle may continue into this year's midterm elections. Calk is now embroiled in a big money Cook County divorce case, and as the I-Team reported last week his estranged wife has subpoenaed bank records pertaining to those Manafort loans.
