Facebook clarified that it does not collect the actual content of calls or text messages when users choose to upload their contact information, Reuters reported.
The zipfile can also be used as a copy of the user's profile in the event you plan to leave Facebook.

But it does means some people without a Facebook account could see their phone number become part of the platform's data archive, should any of their friends or family be on the site.
For its part, Facebook recently posted about this issue and contradicted the actual user experiences of numerous people who are actively engaged in trying to sort this out. The person responsible for the tweet, Dylan McKay, presented a data archive that he'd pulled from Facebook containing the names and numbers of people he had been calling.
Users can do the same thing here, and can download gathered personal data in a Zip file. So, the app can get access to user contacts and phone app data. "While we receive certain permissions from Android, uploading this information has always been opt-in only". "People have to expressly agree to use this feature", the company said. On disabling the opt-in feature all the previously shared call and text history shared via the application will be deleted, assures Facebook.
Facebook users wishing to download their data can do so from the settings tab.
The latest scandal couldn't come at a worse time for the company.
Facebook's stock renewed its downward slide, bringing the company's total loss of market value to around $90 billion since the scandal broke 10 days ago. The apology also comes at a time when people across the world have expressed serious concern over "breach of trust" by Facebook.
