Cambridge Analytica whistleblower Christopher Wylie on Wednesday tweeted details of the Indian activities of analytics company SCL, a day after he told a United Kingdom parliamentary committee investigating the issue of fake news that India's Congress party was one of the clients of the analytics firm.

Christopher Wylie, who blew the lid off the Facebook user personal data being illegally used for political purposes, on Wednesday said his former employer Cambridge Analytica (CA) had an Indian arm and conducted election research on behalf of some parties, including the Janata Dal-United (JD-U), now a BJP ally, for "desired outcome".

Its reach in India is said to include a head office in Ghaziabad, with nine regional offices in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Cuttack, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata, Patna and Pune.

To buttress his claims, he shared three documents related to SCL India - the Indian wing of CA's parent company SCL Group - on Twitter.

During Tuesday's hearing, he said that Cambridge Analytica and the Canadian company Aggregate IQ also had a considerable influence on Britain's European Union referendum.

Cambridge Analytica called Wylie's statement "speculation".

"I don't remember a national project, but I know regionally", he added. India's so big that one state can be as big as Britain.

The news about Wylie and his startup, reported Wednesday by BuzzFeed, is another wrinkle in a saga that's raised alarm about Facebook's privacy practices and about how shadowy big-data firms may be exploiting tech platforms to influence worldwide politics.
