A life raft used for rescue operations did little to help a Miami woman when it crashed through the roof of her home.

A Royal Canadian Air Force helicopter accidentally dropped a life raft on a home in Northeast Miami on February 28, 2018.

"I kept screaming, 'What happened?"

Miami-Dade police public information officier Dectective Lee Cowart said the raft fell as part of a training exercise offshore when the helicopter was returning to OPA-LOCKA airport in the Miami area.

The woman living in the home at 14805 NE 10th Ct. was lying in her bed shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when the object from the air came crashing through the ceiling of her bedroom.

According to Miami-Dade Fire, crews responded to a call that something fell through the roof.

The military released a statement that said it "intends to support the affected resident with immediate accommodations and other support". "And I heard her screaming, I thought something is wrong", Jean Pierre Joseph, the property owner, told WPLG, a Miami-based ABC News affiliate.

"Fortunately, the occupant narrowly escaped disaster and sustained only minor injuries", Capt. William McAllister IV said.

Royal Canadian Air Force spokesman David Lavallee says the military is investigating how and why the uninflated raft detached from the Griffon search-and-rescue helicopter, which is in Florida for a search-and-rescue exercise.

As for the victim, she was not seriously injured, but she iced her shoulder after the incident. The incident did leave her "shaken up" though, she said. "It could have hit me".
