The status of Ivanka Trump's security clearance is unclear, and a White House spokesman declined to comment on that subject to CNN.

The FBI has reportedly been looking closely at the global business entanglements of both Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, to determine whether any of those deals could leave them vulnerable to pressure from foreign agents, including China, according to a US official.

It remains unclear exactly why Ivanka's deal with a Malaysian real estate developer on behalf of Trump Organization has piqued the interest of US counterintelligence, but two sources told CNN the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been looking into both the negotiations and financing of the building.

Completely absent from the reporting of CNN and RealtimePolitics (and everyone else) was any statement or documentation attesting to Ivanka Trump's having been dismissed from her role in her father's administration, or to her father's engaging in a "rampage" over that non-event. A Washington Post report earlier this week also found that foreign governments have considered using Kushner's financial interests as leverage to manipulate him, raising further questions about the couple's security and their place at the White House.

Both Ivanka and Joo Kim said they worked closely together on the project, and Trump Organization received more than $5 million in royalties in the licensing deal, according to President Trump's financial disclosure form in June.

A spokesperson for Ivanka Trump said that CNN was "wrong that any hurdle, obstacle, concern, red flag or problem has been raised with respect to Ms. Trump or her clearance application".

Specifically, investigators want to know details about negotiations and financing surrounding the project.

The Trump Organization receives licensing and marketing fees from Tiah, who runs his family's Canada-based development company Holborn Group.
