Women at Microsoft working in US-based technical jobs filed 238 internal complaints about gender discrimination or sexual harassment between 2010 and 2016, according to court filings made public on Monday. They allege Microsoft "systematically" denied "pay raises or promotions to women", Reuters reported. Microsoft denies it had any such policy. The lawsuit that was filed in 2015 gained a lot of prominence across the world following a resignation or firing of powerful men from entertainment, media, and politics over allegation of sexual harassment.

According to court filings made public Monday and reported by Reuters, women working in US -based technical jobs filed 238 internal complaints of gender discrimination or sexual harassment to the tech giant between 2010 and 2016.

The plaintiff's attorneys are hoping the suit can proceed as a class action lawsuit, which might "cover more than 8,000 women". It added it had introduced "mandatory company-wide unconscious bias training, and created a robust internal investigation process to address employee concerns". Along with the number of complaints filed, human resource practices were released publicly in a legal filling submitted on Monday. Of the 118 claims of gender discrimination filed, Microsoft deemed one as "founded", according to unsealed court documents. The plaintiff's attorneys called the large number of complaints "shocking" and dubbed Microsoft's "investigation team" "lackluster".

Microsoft said the plaintiffs' claims are not enough to warrant a class action lawsuit and claimed the company spent $55 million a year to "promote diversity and inclusion". A Microsoft spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment.

There is no trial date for the case, and judge James Robart has yet to rule on a whether the plaintiffs will be allowed to bring a class action case against Redmond. Microsoft outlined that the number of human resources complaints from female employees need to be kept private, because disclosing the outcomes would restrain employees from reporting abuses in the future.

A court-appointed official found that scenario "far too remote a competitive or business harm" to justify keeping the information sealed.
