Peterson is currently in jail
A former New Smyrna Beach Middle School teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office arrested 26-year-old Stephanie Peterson (also known as Stephanie Ferri) on two counts of lewd and lascivious battery and one count of transmission of harmful materials to a minor.
Police said that the alleged relationship appeared to have begun in November of previous year.
The student also told his parents that his grades suffered because of the illicit relationship.
Peterson would allegedly pick the student up in her vehicle late at night to have sex at her house, before dropping him back home at around 1am, the Daytona Beach News Journal reports. The 26-year-old was arrested and released after paying $ 25,000 as a guarantee and, according to Daily Mail, resigned from the school a day before her arrest.
The News-Journal reports Ferri filed for divorce from her husband on February 12.
Detectives said the teen told them that Peterson asked him not to tell anyone about their relationship or they would get into trouble.

According to an arrest warrant cited by WKMG, Peterson would pick the boy up from his home while her husband was at work.
They both deleted their social media profiles as news of her arrest emerged.
The teen had Peterson as a science teacher while he was in the seventh grade, but the relationship didn't start until he was in the eighth grade, he told deputies.
It is not clear if he is one of her students. A report via the Daytona Beach News-Journal told of Peterson filing for divorce from her husband, with her lawyer father, Philip Peterson representing her in divorce proceedings.
Wait said Ferri resigned for "personal reasons".
Ferri has yet to comment on his estranged wife or her allegations/charges. He is also appears to be a fishing enthusiast, who runs fishing expeditions in New Smyrna Beach. That page says that Ferri has lived in the area his whole life and "has operated his own boat on Mosquito Lagoon since the age of 15".
