Open support for terrorism’ Turkish deputy PM slams Macron’s pro Kurdish statement
Some French media outlets have alleged that the President also promised to send troops to the town of Manbij, west of the River Euphrates, a location Turkey threatens with an invasion despite existing USA outposts there.
The Kurdish-Arab town is under threat of a Turkish military operation that has already complicated the war in Syria. The clarification came after Kurdish representatives said after a meeting with President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Thursday that France would send "new troops" to the region. The Kurdish claim raised fears that France was ready for a military conflict with Turkey, a fellow North Atlantic Treaty Organisation member. He said Macron only offered renewed political support for the Syrian Democratic Forces, promising to "continue this fight together".
PARIS - France is not planning any new military operation in northern Syria beyond its existing commitments to the US-led global anti-ISIS coalition, the presidential office said on Friday.
