- French authorities say the killing of an elderly Jewish woman in Paris is being investigated as an anti-Semitic murder.

A spokesperson for SPCJ, the official monitor and security unit of the French Jewish community, told this to the 7sur7 news site Sunday in connection with the stabbing of Mirelle Kanol, 85, at her home Friday. The body was discovered on Friday.

Two men in their twenties, both previously known to the authorities, were detained in connection with the murder in the past three days, French publication Le Parisien reported.

In a public statement on Sunday, the National Bureau for Vigilance Against Anti-Semitism (BNVCA) said "up to 11 stab wounds" were found on the charred body of the woman, identified only as Mireille K. An autopsy revealed Knoll sustained multiple stab wounds before the fire.

Francis Kalifat, the head of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France, said, "This makes one feel something absolutely bad". Investigators have opened an investigation on Monday including anti-Semitism as a possible motive for the woman's murder, according to French media. " He added that the Holocaust survivor's family has "no doubt about the anti-Semitic background of the incident".
