Full Moon Tonight: What Is the Blue Sap Moon?
The second full moon of the month is set to appear in the sky Saturday morning in the United States, making it a blue moon. The next Blue Moon won't occur until Halloween 2020.
Blue moons or two full moons in a month are rare occurrences that happen only every three years. Based on lunar phases, a full moon occurs every 29 days on the average, or nearly 12 times a year.
Whenever there's a second full moon in a single month, it's generally referred to as a blue moon. Blue moon is the term used to call the second full moon of the month. "The moon gets slightly wider than 900 nm and appears blue". The name has nothing to do with the way the moon appears or its color at that time. A large volcanic eruption (ash), or even wildfires (smoke, dust), can cause a reaction in the atmosphere that creates a bluish tinge. (The first Blue Moon of 2018 was the spectacular "Super Blue Blood Moon" of January 31.) The occurrence of two Blue Moons in a row is actually a rare celestial event that astronomers call a "Double Blue Moon", according to Slooh.

The full blue sap moon won't be visible in some parts of the country. However, February didn't have a full moon because it is a shorter month. However, the moon will still look pretty full when it rises tomorrow at 7:37 p.m. EDT.
Last March 1, the worm moon graced the sky with the first full moon of the month that signaled the start of the March equinox.
