Orsi said the network is planning to budget close to - if not just as much - on the spinoffs as the series now receives.

"$50 million [per season] would never fly for what we are trying to do".

"It was awesome", Orsi said.

Both "Game of Thrones" and "Big Little Lies" are expected to return to HBO with new episodes in 2019. The season seven finale set a viewership records for the network with 12.1 million total live viewers and 16.5 million overall when accounting for streaming.

Orsi said HBO is planning between three and five spinoffs, but that doesn't mean each spinoff will make it into the development phase.

Oil prices fall on relentless rise in US crude output

Such ambitious goals can sometimes reek of corporate greed rather than malfeasance, but in this instance, HBO has tasked some interesting creatives with jumping into the world of Ice and Fire. Bryan Cogman, who wrote "Stormborn", is behind one of them, as is Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential), and Carly Wray (The Leftovers); creator George R.R. Martin is reportedly working with all of them in some capacity. The move marks the first time that HBO will revisit one of its iconic shows.

"When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die".

HBO drama chief Francesca Orsi and programming president Casey Bloys got brutally honesty during an INTV panel in Jerusalem, Israel (via Deadline) in which they expressed some worry over the network's skyrocketing budget. "None of the cast had received the scripts prior, and one by one they started falling down to their deaths".

She also discussed the various Game of Thrones spinoffs, which will air after this final season. "Then there was applause that lasted 15 minutes".
