Mark the date in your calendars; on the 18 of March we will be hit by a magnetic storm!
According to The Sun, this latest magnetic storm is being described as "minor" by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the NOAA has issued a storm warning via Twitter saying that the storm will be in effect today and tomorrow.
'The largest storms that result from these conditions are associated with solar coronal mass ejections (CMEs) where a billion tons or so of plasma from the sun, with its embedded magnetic field, arrives at Earth'. "Things are all quiet for space weather, and the sun is essentially spotless".
Are you ready for a massive magnetic storm?
A chart posted on Russia's Lebedev Institute website shows a slight uptick in geomagnetic activity on the 18th (and again on the 22nd and 26th).
NOAA's 27-day forecast suggests similar fluctuations, expected to be "a minor storm at most", according to Newsweek. The red bars, which barely reach the G1 "minor storm" level, was misinterpreted as a major event.

Geomagnetic storms are rated on a scale of G1 to G5, with G5 being the most extreme. G1 storms, like the one due on Sunday, occur about 2,000 times every 11 years-or once every two days.
This scale is based in part on an index created from the amount of magnetic deviation a storm might produce on the ground combined with measurements of a variety of currents with fabulous names, including the "auroral electrojets" and the "field-aligned current". According to NOAA's website, there is also another type of current dubbed "the disturbance storm time index". These storms could turn out to be extremely unsafe because they can disrupt telecommunications, navigation, and electrical power around the Earth.
It is widely believed solar storms are one of the "biggest threats" to mankind.
In the past, large-scale geomagnetic events have played havoc with communication satellites, and caused blackouts.
The strongest geomagnetic storm on record is the Carrington Event in 1859, aimed after Brit astronomer Richard Carrington, which electrified telegraph lines and shocked technicians, setting their papers on fire - it was visible as far as Cuba and Hawaii.
