German village votes to let 'Hitler bell' remain in church
In a vote on Monday night, the local council in a small southwestern German village decided by 10 votes to 3 that a Nazi-era bell - complete with the inscription "Everything for the Fatherland - Adolf Hitler" - should continue to hang in the local church and be put back in use.
The controversial church bell, which bears the inscription "Everything for the Fatherland - Adolf Hitler" along with a Nazi swastika, has been a fixture in the Herxheim am Berg church since 1934 but has recently fueled conflicting arguments amongst residents, according to Fox News.
The town said the continued presence would be "reminder about reconciliation and a monument against violence and injustice".
A memorial pointing to the bell's history will now be fixed on the heritage-listed church, the Jakobskirche.

He added that we must also focus on the relation between "cinema actresses" and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. He is the second politician after Amar Singh to speak about Sridevi's death in a sensational language.
ROland Becker, the former town mayor, resigned past year for comments he made which seemed to defend not just the bell but the Nazi era.
Last year, officials silenced the bell amid all the controversy and a second one was used instead, the Daily Mail reported.
At the meeting on the February 26 evening, village mayor Georg Welker said that "the community needs clarity which way we should go", national news agency DPA reported. Disposing of it would represent "an evasion of a reasonable and enlightened culture of remembrance", the expert's opinion found. The final decision rested with the town council, which owns the bell.
Some church-goers were shocked to learn that they had gotten married, baptized their children or taken part in various religious events under the Nazi relic.
