This season, players will be competing in a world centered around the bad decisions of past Survivor competitors. Naviti decides to send Donathan to Ghost Island, so he will not be voted out. The exiled castaway will lose some time with their tribe, sure, but they will also miss out on the first Tribal Council of the season - and therefore guarantee their survival through the first three days of the 39-day adventure. "You shouldn't be able to get rid of someone who's very good at fishing, either, nor a fire-starter, nor a shelter builder - at least not without effect". This rudimentary device wasn't in place when I visited Ghost Island, but a simple challenge was on hand all the same.
"As a player I was looking for the people that didn't know the game very well because I was wanted to try and take advantage of those people". Them's the breaks out on Survivor: glory to the victor, eternal shame for the loser. The inaugural victor of this new mandatory final four fire challenge, Ben Driebergen, went on to win the whole season. A shelter with dozens of torch snuffers from past seasons awaits players, reminding them that one small mistake could cost them their game.
This season is unlike any other, with brand new twists introduced into the game that breathes new life into a classic format. Not that it would have changed much...
