Meet the 2019 GMC Sierra AT4: Lifted and loaded
GMC is going further into the off-road truck segment with the 2019 GMC Sierra AT4, a slightly more in-depth off-roader than the previous Sierra All-Terrain model, but not quite a Ford F-150 Raptor competitor.
"The 2019 Sierra AT4 is designed for the customer who wants an elevated presence on the road and the capability to venture off life's beaten path", commented Duncan Aldred, the global VP of the GMC brand. "It's also the beginning for the AT4 brand, which will be seen on every vehicle in our lineup in the next two years". GMC's CarbonPro pickup box will be available for the AT4 late in the model year. We saw Sierra Denali and SLT at a special event shortly after and now we're gathered together again to see the next piece of the puzzle, GMC's Sierra AT4. The front bumper, grille surround and rear bumper are done in body-color paint, while the grille is black chrome. The grille itself is finished in black chrome in addition to the fog lamp bezels and fender trim.
The window trim, mirror caps, and skip plates get high-gloss black trim, and then the designers throw in some color with a little red for highlights.
Inside, dark remains the dominant theme.
The interior also carries AT4-specific darkened trim, including dark-tinted and textured aluminum finishes on the steering wheel, center stack and sill plates, as well as a unique Jet Black/Kalahari color combo in the seats and stitching.
On the Sierra, the AT4 badge adds off-road credentials to the upscale full-size pickup.

As for the off-roading credibility, that comes from four-wheel drive as standard. It also has a two-speed transfer case with low-range gearing for challenging terrain.
Besides this impressive list of hardware, the Sierra AT4 packs available technologies such as Traction Select System (preset driving modes), Surround Vision (provides a bird's-eye view of the car), ProGrade Trailering System with Trailering App, and a Head-Up Display, among other things.
Buyers can opt for 18-inch wheels shod in all-terrain tires or 20-inch wheels with similar tires, but if that isn't enough, mud-ready Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires are on offer, as well. The cargo boxes offer best-in-class cargo volume of 63 cubic feet (1,784 liters) on the short box and continues to be made of roll-formed, high-strength steel, yet a revised alloy offers 50 percent more strength than the current model.
Under the hood there'll be a choice of three engines. A 6.2-liter V8 or 3.0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder are optional. The standard transmission is a 10-speed automatic.
GMC on Monday introduced the 2019 Sierra AT4, which features darker exterior elements of the redesigned pickup with several off-road features. Exact pricing will be announced closer to the truck's on-sale date.
