GMC says the Sierra's taller hood and grille give it a "more dominant" appearance, and the overall look is similar to that of the Terrain SUV.
There's even an optional Trailering Camera Package which adds two rear-facing cameras integrated into the side mirrors so you can see down the entire length of your truck and trailer during lane changes or when backing up. Both SLT and Denali trims get unique 22-inch wheels. Still, the new Sierra is larger than the current model in nearly every dimension-which translates to more interior storage and 3 inches more rear legroom in crew-cab models. Comparatively, the Silverado dropped up to 450 pounds. GMC is taking it's most popular pickup truck to the next level with a completely redesigned 2019 Sierra Denali and SLT.
The all-new 2019 GMC Sierra will go on sale this fall with pricing and additional details revealed closer to production. No details are being provided at this time about a base or SLE trim. Finally, the all-new 10-speed transmission will be available as well, first in the bigger V-8 and straight-six diesel, then likely rolled out to more configurations.
As with the Silverado, the 2019 Sierra gets three engines, two gasoline V8s and a new diesel inline-6.
Both of the V-8 engines, as in the Silverado, will feature technology called Dynamic Fuel Management that can shut off cylinders, in a variety of combinations, to optimize performance and fuel economy. The 4.3-liter Ecotec V6 which will be offering about 285hp and 305lb ft of torque, the 5.3 liter EcoTec3 V8 engine that will be offering 355hp and 383lb ft of torque as well as the 6.2 liter EcoTec3 V8 engine that will be offering about 420hp and 460lb ft of torque.
The Sierra will also offer GMC's new ProGrade Trailering System as a standard feature. This allows what GMC is calling "the most innovative tailgate ever" to allow easier access to the bed, make certain objects in the bed easier to reach and even act as a load bed-lengthening backstop so longer items don't slide out of the bed under acceleration. One mode makes it easier to step up, and the step also serves as a seat. It uses "inner" and "primary" gates that are controlled by two buttons in the tailgate handle.

Ford, by contrast, went all-in on aluminum when it switched to aluminum-bodied F-150s for the 2015 model year, a move that competitors have not followed. The new Sierra also will be available with surround-view cameras for safer parking and trailer towing in tight spaces. Trailer theft detection lets owners know by text or an OnStar alert that the trailer has been detached from the truck without permission.
Segment-first Multi-Color Head-Up Display projects key, customizable vehicle data on the windshield in a 3×7-inch display to help drivers keep their eyes on the road. And there's a dual-function rearview-camera/rearview mirror to allow an unobstructed view if the back of the truck is blocked by people and cargo.
"The heritage of the GMC brand is rooted in full-size trucks, of which the Sierra is our cornerstone, with our SLT and Denali models contributing 87 percent of our total crew cab sales", Aldred said.
GMC released only a couple of exterior images ahead of Thursday's debut, but we can clearly see the influence of the Chevy's aggressive front end on the new Sierra, particularly around the headlights and grille. One big weapon for GMC will be the coming forthcoming option of a carbon fiber bed in high-end models. The Denali nameplate on the tailgate is a new block typeface. The new Denali's interior features real aluminum and open-pore wood trim, and some two-tone leather and vinyl themes. GMC is talking up its new infotainment software, too, which promises swifter responses and better voice recognition.
