Indiana Sunday alcohol ban to be lifted this weekend
Gov. Eric Holcomb said at a signing ceremony, "I would say to entrepreneurs and residents that there's no need to cross the border anymore in the state of Indiana".
"This is just yet another example where the State of IN has sought to, and indeed modernized, our laws to meet consumer expectation", Holcomb says.
Jay Ricker, owner of 56 Ricker's convenience stores throughout the state that sell alcohol, credits his push to provide Sunday sales and cold beer at his convenience stores as propelling the Legislature toward considering the push. Nine of the same 10 Republicans voted against the measure, which moved on to the governor's desk.
Holcomb was asked whether legislation to allow cold beer sales at places other than package liquor will be next and he replied, "let's get through Sunday first".
Smaltz sponsored the Senate bill in the House. These are challenges that require leaders to act with bold vision. It's shameful that this appears to be a top priority.

"Basically, while we are happy to see Sunday sales, one of the big issues is cold beer, and that has not been addressed", he said.
It's a right primarily enjoyed by package liquor stores, though convenience stores have long sought for the ability to sell cold beer, too, instead of the room temperature beer and chilled wine they can now sell. "We will be back again and again".
Currently, 18 states allow use of "low THC, high cannabidiol (CBD)" products for medical reasons in limited situations or as a legal defense. By April of this year, Ricker will have to remove cold beer from both of those stores.
Liquor store interests flexed their muscles at the Statehouse, spending at least $150,000 on lobbying in recent years while donating more than $750,000 to lawmakers since 2010, an Associated Press review found last year. The story has been changed to reflect Holcomb has yet to sign the bill, meaning the Say's Firefly isn't officially Indiana's state insect.
