Amidst mixed reactions trailing one-year extension granted his national working committee, National chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Chief Odigie Oyegun has said that he would be willing to make sacrifices to ensure that peace returned to the ruling party.

Many members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) were yesterday backing out of the decision to extend the tenure of the party's executives when they discovered that it requires an amendment to the constitution.

"What the APC has done was in the interest of not only the party but Nigeria and Nigerians, because a ruling party cannot afford to approach the general election with more disputes and crisis which could be a distraction to the President Muhammadu Buhari's laudable performance".

That we support His Excellency Senator Bola Tinubu-led peace and reconciliation committee and urge the committee to expedite action in reconciling members of the party.

Political pundits had feared that Tinubu can not undertake the task because he was part of the APC crisis.

"What was done today (yesterday) was only an expression of a desire to extend the tenure of the Chief Oyegun-led national executive".

The AUTHORITY learnt that Odigie-Oyegun polled 104 votes as against four to secure an additional one year in office. Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), Nasir el- Rufai (Kaduna), Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Abdulahi Umar Ganduje (Kano), and Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo). Yakubu Dogara, were however absent at the meeting.

However, some chieftains of the party said the decision to extend the tenure of the National Working Committee of the party was taken in the best interest of all and will not generate any controversy. "This has clearly shown that APC is an undemocratic party, a party, which has been in existence for three years but has never obeyed its own constitution", Frank said in a statement, challenging anybody to show proof any demand of the party's constitution had ever been "religiously obeyed".
