Google brings Hangouts Chat, its Slack competitor, to all
Hangouts launched as a free service in 2013. That's why two companies that sell online storage services are willing to work together. "The addition of Chat takes this a step further, merging Lucidchart's real-time collaboration features with Google's intelligent chat tool". The service also comes integrated with Vault so that admins can archive, preserve, search and export Chat-specific data. Google's also added support for automation via bots, a capability which has been instrumental to Slack's success. Its "Quick Access" file picker will now be available directly in Google Docs and Google Calendar will try to use machine learning to pick the best meeting room for you automatically. Google says the chat now comes with 25 bots to help speed up workflows, ranging from finance and human resources to CRM, project management and more. The Chat has deep integrations with other G Suite apps like Google Drive, Calendar, and Hangouts Meet, and built-in security to meet retention, eDiscovery, and regulatory/compliance needs for enterprises.
Hangouts Chat differs from the Hangouts most people know from chatting with friends through Gmail. This will mark the very first time Google would introduce some sort of text-based collaboration service in past one year. The previous app will be available the same way it was.
While Hangouts Chat and Meet are the business oriented alternatives to those apps. Using chat "rooms", project discussions, meeting notes and team threads can be centralised into a single app that's available wherever you are.
