I would urge parents to continue to check school notices with their local authorities before making any decisions on travel.

Where will Storm Emma hit?

The amber "be prepared" warning was expected to end at 6pm tonight but the forecaster has since revised it to 10am tomorrow, after which it will be superseded by a yellow "be aware" alert.

The current warning covers Central, Tayside, Fife, Grampian, Highlands, south west Scotland, Lothian and Borders and Strathclyde.

It's believed that temperatures will dramatically drop from tonight with areas experiencing up to -5c in places and snow to start falling from the morning.

Wrexham is also just on the cusp of an amber weather warning on Thursday, however there is no indication what (if any) impact that will have on the area.

According to the Met Office, potentially heavy snow could hit the county on Friday and Saturday, in addition to Tuesday and Wednesday.

Lincolnshire has seen flurries of snow today, Monday February 26, and the Met Office is still forecasting an 80% chance of snow tonight/tomorrow morning.

The chief forecaster's assessment added: "Where showers become organised though, most likely across Scotland, areas of 15-25cm are likely, locally as much as 40cm".

Extreme weather is expected.
