There is no hell’ Italian publisher claims Pope Francis denied existence of underworld
He made this known on Thursday during an interview with Italian daily La Repubblica.
Eugenio Scalfari, 93, an avowed atheist who has struck up an intellectual friendship with Francis, met the pope recently and wrote up a long story that included a question-and-answer section at the end.
But hours after the report was published, the Vatican issued a denial, saying comments attributed to the spiritual leader denying the existence of hell are a product of the journalist's reconstruction of the pope's remarks and not a faithful transcript of the pontiff's real words.
He added, "Hell does not exist - what exists is the disappearance of sinful souls".
However, Vatican issued a statement, stressing that Pope Francis' claims, in which he allegedly denies the existence of hell, are a pure "reconstruction" of journalist Eugenio Scalfari, who interviewed the pontiff and can not be regarded as a genuine transcription of his words.

The Catholic Church isn't exactly big on change, but this morning Pope Francis announced a huge one: Hell-you know, the firey despair pit where thieves, cheaters, Patriots fans, and murderers are consigned to an eternity of only Trump's Twitter feed-is going the way of Toys R' Us.
According to traditional church teaching, those who die as sinners face eternal punishment by unquenchable fire in hell.
