The former Blue Peter presenter was wearing his wife's wedding ring on the programme as his story prompted Willoughby to break down in tears, while Schofield struggled to keep it together as the pair wiped away tears.
"I looked into his deep brown eyes and said, "Ethan I'm really sorry they couldn't make mummy better. mummy's died", he said. I rolled on the floor with him. I held him and I rolled on the floor with him'. I never had the chance to say goodbye.
With tears rolling down her cheeks, Holly had to take a moment to compose herself, apologising to Simon for becoming emotional.
"All the way back [from the hospital] my heart was pounding", Simon said. I woke up every patient there and I screamed at God 'why have you left my boy without a mum?'. She came in and I said 'look she's been having these headaches for a while, are you worried?'
"We actually had a joint appointment, mainly for medication for my depression. I asked, 'Why have you left my boy without a mum?'"
A few days later, her condition had worsened and she returned to the doctors, before later being rushed to A&E.
"On the Monday night at the Royal Berkshire [hospital]". I've told him it is supposed to be coming! "It all cart wheeled quite quickly", Simon said.

Despite being given a 50-50 survival chance, her health suddenly deteriorated: "She'd been perfectly fine the night before, ' he recalled, after blood test results appeared 'encouraging".
'But later that night she began to become more confused and he had to help her to the bathroom. That was the last time I spoke to her.
She apologised to Simon for crying and praised him for his bravery as he shared the moment he had to tell his son. Thomas later revealed that his wife was pregnant at the time of her death. I just don't enjoy being on my own.
The next episode of Dancing on Ice airs this Sunday at 6pm on ITV and we can't wait to see what Holly's going to be wearing next.
