2019 Honda Insight Is A Handsome Hybrid With Up To 55 MPG City
The original Insight launched in 1999 as a streamlined two-door hatch and the first hybrid to reach the U.S. After discontinuing the nameplate in 2014, Honda is bringing back the model as a premium five-passenger sedan. All Insights also have a multi-angle backup camera, and the EX and Touring models also will have the Honda's love-it-or-hate-it LaneWatch camera system, which shows an image of the passenger-side blind spot on the dashboard screen. Under most conditions, the Insight operates as a series hybrid, in which the gasoline engine, connected to the generator motor, produces electricity that is supplied to either the electric propulsion motor and/or the 60-cell lithium-ion battery pack. This powertrain comprise of 1.5 liter petrol engine which runs on Atkinson cycle.
The third iteration of Honda's ultra-efficient Insight coming this summer as a 2019 model is poised to be among the fuel economy leaders with an estimated rating of 55 mpg in city driving. And despite the fact that the Insight has lithium-ion battery pack onboard, the trunk is still capable of swallowing 15.1 cu-ft of cargo, which Honda says rivals many midsize sedans. By storing the lithium-ion battery pack under the rear seats, the designers have been able to fit a folding 60/40 rear bench.
The Insight features three selectable driving modes - NORMAL, ECON, and SPORT - allowing drivers to customize their experience by maximizing efficiency or driving performance. Like Civic, the Insight also features variable-ratio dual-pinion electric power steering. The body features Honda's Advance Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure. To reduce weight, the bonnet is made of aluminium, whereas the engine bay, front fenders, front firewall, and front and rear floor all get more sound insulating materials to improve cabin quietness. There's a dual-ratio rack-and-pinion electric power steering system, and the auto rides on MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear.

Built on the Civic platform, Honda boasts the Insight has a "generous" 2.7-metre wheelbase, with 95cm of rear legroom and a 428L boot.
The 2019 Honda Insight looks nearly identical to the prototype that we saw a few months ago, with the major changes being a new grille and slight changes to the rear. Standard items across the board are the full LED headlights, lower-mounted LED DRLs, LED taillights and heated side mirrors. Model comparisons to known competitors are also available for any who are looking at a brand outside of Honda. In the cabin there's an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, as well as standard Honda Sensing features.
The range-topping Touring rides on 17-inch wheels, and gains LED fog-lights, rain-sensing wipers, a power moonroof, leather seats, dual-zone climate control, satellite navigation with live traffic updates, a Wi-Fi hotspot and over-the-air updates. It sits on the same basic architecture as the 10-generation Civic. This includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control. The Insight targets top collision safety ratings, including an NCAP 5-star Overall Vehicle Score and IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK with a "Good" rating in all crash test modes and a "Superior" rating for front crash protection.
